How to Take Care of Your Saxophone

You may be wondering how to take care of your new saxophone so that it lasts for a very long time. This article discusses some tips that you can use to ensure that your precious instrument keeps performing reliably for the longest time possible.

Know When to Eat

Never eat any food or sugary substance such as sweets or take fizzy drinks just before you play your saxophone. You should also avoid consuming any food or sugary drink as you play the instrument. This is because residues may get into your instrument and cause its pads to become sticky. Sticky pads make it very difficult for you to play in tune since they will not move as quickly as you want them to.

Prevent Moisture from Accumulating inside Your Saxophone

It is advisable that you buy a pad saver for your instrument. These pad savers can be got from a variety of online and offline saxophone shops. You should insert this pad into your saxophone and leave it there for the duration recommended by the maker of that pad. That pad absorbs all the moisture from inside your saxophone thereby preventing it from wearing out due to the negative impact of moisture. Once that time (20 minutes, for example) has elapsed, remove the saver pad and keep it separately.

Frequent Inspection

Frequently inspect your saxophone so that any anomaly you notice is immediately investigated and fixed. For instance, carefully look at your saxophone before you play it. If you notice any abnormality (such as a bent key) on your saxophone, ask a technician to fix that abnormality before it gets worse and affects the performance of your instrument.

Store the Reed Appropriately

After playing, immediately remove the reed and put it inside the reed cover. This will enable the reed to dry out and prevent it from warping. Adherence to this tip will make the reed to last for a very long time and your saxophone will always perform as expected.

The tips above may require some conscious effort on your part in the beginning. With time, they will become second nature to you and you will no longer find it hard to take proper care of your saxophone. Just keep the tips above in mind after acquiring your first saxophone and you will form good user habits that will enable your saxophones to last for a long time. About Me

New Instruments, New Pedagogical Technique and Other Advances in Music

Humans have been making music for as long as they have existed. In fact, you could easily argue that humans (just as many other animals do) made music before they even evolved into being humans. However, although it is older than ancient, music keeps evolving and changing. Humans are always driven to make new sounds in new ways. Hi, my name is Caitlyn, and I love music. I also love to see what's new and interesting. To help me organise my thoughts, I decided to create a blog. In this space, I am going to post news, facts and ideas relating to a range of musical concepts with a focus on the new and exciting.
